Luffy is the Mugiwara Kaizoku-dan captain. He ate a devil fruit when he was a child, and so he adquired powers that made him a rubber man. Read-haired Shanks, a famous pirate captain, saved his life around that time, and gave him the straw-hat he considers a treasure and became the symbol of his own pirate crew later on.

The moment he turned 17, he left his home island to become a pirate. But not just any pirate, Luffy's goal is to find One Piece, the greatest treasure there is (said to belong to Gol D. Roger) and become the next Pirate King. He's the point of union of all his crew members and the one responsible for the recruits. His undying determination is the greatest source of inspiration for them all and the loyalty each and every one of them show for him is limitless.
